Oredson-Todd Woods to Lithia Park 3-4-19

The Sun came out and so did many returning friends to our hiking group. We were glad to welcome back Irene, Joe, Peggy and Carol who are recovering from injuries. In total fifteen turned out to take on this six mile up and down hike across Ashland.

At 9:30 we caravaned up to the Oredson Todd Woods trailhead. Temps in the high 30s at the beginning but feeling the Sun through our clothes made us think of an early Spring day.

Early on we all came to a stop when someone cried out. Did somebody fall and need help? No it was Liz our flower lady expressing her excitement to find an early bloom of a "Snow Queen".

We wound are way through the woods taking the high trail to avoid mud then came down to the creek and crossed on stones (some flooded by the high current). We made it to the creek fall and found it full and rushing down the smooth rock. We then crossed the bridge and started our ascent out of the woods.

It was a jovial group with lots of happy conversations as friends were catching up after long absences.

Our trail came down out of the woods and became Park Street, and eventually we made a left onto the TID canal trail. This hike has a few scenic spots besides OT Woods and Lithia Park. Since the TID is gated off we turned down Paradise Lane and viewed Duncan's Garden a pretty private park with a creek running through it. Across from the park is a house with two goats and a flying pig on it's roof! From Walker we got back on the canal trail and wound through hillside neighborhoods and around a gorge until we finally found an entrance to the forested Liberty Street Park. We took the trail to the left and crossed Morton and eventually Terrace before we turned downhill into Lithia Park.

Most of us had lunch at Louie's on the Plaza, but a few went to Allison's Chelsea Flower Show presentation across from Lithia Park. We saved a dollar out of our lunch money and took the RVTD bus back to Rite Aid.

Everyone enjoyed the hike and we didn't lose any hikers ... for very long.
