Oredson Todd-Woods, Uhtoff and White Rabbit Trails, 10-22-2021

Snow was predicted for the originally scheduled Brown Mountain trail hike, so we elected to hike locally in the Ashland Watershed. Five of us parked cars on Locust Street and headed off on the Oredson Todd Woods Lower Trail. Then, we took the Clay Creek Loop and headed up the Mike Uhtoff trail to the top of the hill.

Trees and shrubs glistened from the recent rain with the red Madrone bark peeling off in stripes and squares. Lichen appeared to spring from tree trunks. Maples with golden leaves were striking along Clay Creek among the pines and fir.

At the top we savored snacks with a fine view of Ashland and the Rogue Valley below. Elisabeth shared two poems and special cookies.

As we started to descend, we were happy to meet a large group of students perched on all the granite rocks taking in the views and fall colors.

We returned down the White Rabbit trail, then the Uhtoff and Oredson-Todd trails. Total distance was 4.5 miles with a 900’ elevation gain.
