With last week's smoke and poor air quality gone, we gathered in Upper Lithia Park and set off for our Labor Day hike up the New Wonder Trail.
We had a mixed group of regulars and returning hikers. And the season seemed to switch to Fall with mild temps in the 60s and 70s under partially cloudy skies.
The holiday brought out more hikers and bikers and folks walking dogs. It also brought out veteran members of the AHG that we met along the way. First, Dr.Gary Swanson with his curly haired dog, later on up above us on the switchbacks we saw Gary had been joined by Ron Little.
And further up near Fell-on-knee we met Hank Morgan and his son coming down.
We stopped for a break at the intersection where the New Wonder meets the original Wonder Trail coming up from FS2060. We were 2.9 miles up from the TH, with 1.5 miles remaining until we reached our lunch spot at the Fell-on-knee Loop Trail intersection.
We had a relaxing lunch break with Coffee Buzz chocolate shared around for a little extra energy heading back down.
We returned to the parking lot by 1 pm, a little tired but happy. A woman walking up asked if we were having a party, I replied yes it's the Ashland Hiking Group and we do it every Monday.
Five of us stopped at the Rogue Valley Roasting Company after the hike for refreshments and to do some planning for future hikes.
Happy Trails,
Rich
