Lithia Park and the New Wonder Trail 3-15-21

Photos by Sunny

Five hikers took advantage of a winter surprise to walk in Lithia Park and hike up the New Wonder Trail. Darryl drove up in his snowcovered Honda to join John and I near the bandshell; while Sunny and recently retired Mike walked up from their house.

The day started chilly but sunny as the overnight snow brightened the park. New buds and fresh spring growth highlighted the shrubs and trees. We walked down to the park entrance and up through the park crossing snow covered bridges along the way.

Up past the swimming reservoir we first turned in to explore the Fairy Ponds, then crossed the road to hike up the New Wonder Trail. The views from the rising trail were brilliant, as the sun shone on the Cascades across the valley.

As we gained elevation the snow became thicker and icier until it was judged time to head back for lunch at Louie's.

All told we did 6.8 miles and over 17,000 steps.

It was a great day!
