Ashland Watershed - Lewis Loop 3-29-21

Photos by Darryl, Jerry and Randy - Track by Jerry

We had a great turn out of 12 hikers Monday and a greater surprise to find snow on the ground. A mini weather front had dropped about a half inch of the white stuff overnight. Temps in the 30s at the start kept the pristine white coating on trees and shrubs as we hiked up to the Loop.

This is another local Ashland hike like the Wonder Trail that you can share with friends when you have out of town visitors.

To get to the TH, you drive to the top of Morton Street and take a left onto the Ashland Loop Road for about a mile to the roomy parking area just before the closed gate at the White Rabbit TH.

You hike up 0.5 miles then turn right onto the Caterpillar trail. Caterpillar takes you up to Lewis Loop after about 1.5 miles. You take Gimble, the lower trail, out to Lewis Lookout. There you'll find a picnic table that was donated and assembled by Ashland Scout Troop 112.

We were early for lunch having moved briskly up the trail in the chilly morning air, so after our group photo around the table we headed back into town where 8 of us had lunch by Ashland Creek in the afternoon sun.

Note: Later in the Spring Lewis Loop is excellent for wildflower viewing on Gimble going out and at the Lookout and on Gyre the upper trail of the loop coming back.

Liz will have her first Wildflower Walk on Friday 4/2 to Lower Table Rock, leaving Rite Aid at 9 am.
