Hald-Strawberry Park 1-10-20

Photos by Linda and Elisabeth

We had beautiful weather for our meander loop to Hald/Strawberry Park from Lithia Park. Our group of 11 hikers started at the corner of Granite and Nutley. We went south on Granite turning right at the Granite Street Trail (marked by a small sign between large homes); following the steps up we took the trail on the right after the gate and caught the ditch trail; on the ditch trail we soon saw the Hald/Strawberry Park to our left, we stayed on the ditch trail turning left at a wide dirt road that took us into the park (past a parking area that was posted no parking); then we followed the clearly marked trail to the benches at the top of the park. We had a respite there and our group photo.

Coming back we stayed on the trail that went past the sign for Sunnyview Street and ended up on (right) Westwood, then (right) Strawberry, then right Birdsong; we took the clearly marked Birdsong Trail to (left) Hitt Road then back to (right) Strawberry and (right) the ditch trail; we walked past the Granite Trail on the ditch trail to Hart’s Desire Trail which we took to Granite Street and Lithia Park. It was probably about 6 miles (not sure because I forgot to turn on my tracking app).

Linda noted that the red tree in the photo below “is a Staghorn Sumac Tree. Isn't it beautiful!  I read the fruits can be used for lemonade or tea, and it's fruit is high in Vitamin C and tannin compounds.”

Each of us found this to be a lovely area to explore so close to home.

In gratitude, Judy
