Ashland Watershed 11-23-15

Beautiful day, especially when we sat in the sun at the end of the Lamb's Mine trail to eat lunch.  Actually, it wasn't the end of the trail, as Sabin demonstrated by hiking some distance farther on a path suitable only for him and the occasional stray mountain goat. Most of the hike was in the shade, but the crisp temperature kept us from overheating on our way up the Catwalk.

Only downside was the presence of many smoldering remnants of controlled burns, which made the air in some places unpleasantly acrid and unhealthy.  Nick noticed that buried branches and tree roots had burned up completely, leaving tunnel-like holes that reminded him of lava tubes inside the baked, decomposed granite.
