Six of us enjoyed a pretty Oregon, rainy day with a hike starting at the Oredson-Todd Woods trailhead. We started with the Upper Trail up Clay Creek to the “waterfalls”, which was as full as any of us had seen before. A large ceder tree fell over the trail last week and we were grateful that the large trunk had already been cut in sections and rolled below the trail. We zig-zagged up the hill on the Mike Uhtoff trail to the second bench overlooking the northern hills. There, we enjoyed a snack taking in the broad view across the valley. We descended on the Cheshire Cat trail. I scouted Cheshire earlier in Dec. and was pleased to meet Jack from Ashland Parks and Rec, pruning the madrones along the trail. Further on, we caught the Mike Uhtoff trail again down to the Lower Clay Creek Loop. Finally, as the rain increased, we hiked along the Lower Trail back to the trailhead. It’s always great to be out hiking with friends in the Ashland Watershed. distance: 3 miles, elevation gain: 500’
