With high hopes we headed up to the CSN Mariposa Preserve off Old Hwy 99. Good news - Us six sharp-eyed WWers found the plants. Other news - The flowers were way past gone. (Sigh). Well, we marked our spots and know where to go find them next year. Linda and Randy met up with us just as we were leaving and joined us for the 2nd part of the morning.
And, we had much more luck finding flowers to identify when we headed up the Mt Ashland Ski Road to the PCT trail crossing just past milepost 7 towards what will now be called Mt Ashland Lower Flower Bowl. Middle of August and 43 species? Not to shabby. The stars of the show that day had to be the chocolatey-looking coneflowers loaded with bees. You have to use magnifying lens to see the incredibly tiny yellow flowers, but the bees have no trouble.
All in all, a very fun outing. See you all next year!
