The forecasted sunshine manifested itself only intermittently today; however, four inches of new snow Thursday night made for pleasant snowshoeing on the Moon Prairie loop.
The actual loop is supposed to be only 5.4 miles long; however, a wrong turn by the leader (unnamed to protect the guilty) at a critical point added some 1.5 miles to the actual distance traveled, for a total of 6.95 mi. This may be an AHG record for a snowshoe hike. The Friday group has just raised the performance bar! Elevation gain was 425 ft instead of the projected 250 ft. The Moon Prairie loop is a very pleasant snowshoe track, and we're definitely adding it to our repertoire.
