Moon Prairie 1-14-22

Photos by Kay

Bright sun and sparkling snow greeted us on Moon Prairie.  We parked at the Deadwood (Big Elk) Sno-Park (at the intersection of DIM and Highway #37), and from there walked across DIM onto Moon Prairie Road.

Thirteen of us crunched along on the packed, groomed trail up and across the prairie with brilliant views of Mt. McLoughlin.  After 1 mile we crossed the cattle guard into BLM land with many planted trees. At approximately 1.2 miles we took the right fork up the hill into large conifers.  Some walked farther onto BLM—38-4e-7.

Eventually, all of us turned back and met for snacks and snowshoe stories in the conifers.  Then, we returned down the hill with views of aspen, mogul-like snow drifts and Mt. McLoughlin.

It was gorgeous day trekking on the Moon in the sun and snow with the Friday Mod Group. Total distance:  4.1 miles.
