Hyatt Lake Snowshoe 1-16-17

It was an absolutely beautiful day when we arrived at the parking by the Hyatt Lake Campground. They seemed to have closed off the PCT trail so we descended through the campground to the lake and then followed some snowshoe tracks around the lake to the east. We soon had to stop to take off a layer of clothes. We had to break some trail with about 12 inches of dry powder but we took turns and all went well in the glorious sun.

A good group of 12 were on the hike, with at least two who had never tried snowshoeing before. Tracy brought her dad who zipped along at a good pace. The two took a tumble while posing for a picture and were caught on film in a tangle of arms, legs, poles and snowshoes in the deep snow. Sometimes you don't mind being an object of mirth. It is just too funny.

We finished the hike after just enough effort and headed for Caldera Brewing where they took very good care of us. The pilsner was excellent, the amber was worth ambling for and the lawnmower lager out of season but tickled the palate. Definitely a do again day.
