Eight hikers snowshoed on the east side of Hyatt Lake, starting near the PCT road crossing in the SnoPark and turning around after visiting the shore of the Lake at Wildcat Campground. Our distance was a bit over 4 miles RT over undulating snow-covered road.

The snow was thin in some places, nice going in the morning and a bit wet and sticky in the afternoon. The clouds moved swiftly across the sky, revealing intermittent blue. Fog led to some light moisture but otherwise dry. The evergreens on both sides provided a lovely, cozy trek with occasional views through the forest to the lake and hills to the west.

Those of us familiar with Hyatt and Wildcat Campground area from kayaking there took note of the very low lake level and mostly empty cove. We finished off our journey with some See’s Candy truffles.
