Grouse Gap Snowshoe 2-21-14

Snow on FS 20 was chopped up by snocat tracks, but certainly deep enough for snowshoeing. One member of our party ditched her snowshoes and went the whole way in her hiking boots. Just before we reached Grouse Gap the quality of the snow improved dramatically, and we walked thru soft snow some 6-8" deep the rest of the way to the shelter. Snow quality beyond Grouse Gap looked very good, both on FS 20 and on the slopes above the spur road to Grouse Gap shelter.  Several cross-country skiers kept going on FS 20 past Grouse Gap in the direction of Siskiyou Peak.
