Grouse Gap Snowshoe 11-30-16

Photos by Dan, Deniese and Keeley

We started our first snowshoe hike of the winter in 32 degree weather, plus it was snowing and blowing.  Not sure how the day would turn out, but the weatherman said it was going to clear after 10 AM, so off we headed into the stormy forest.

The group of 10 hardy soles split into two groups after the first mile, with one heading on the lower road (shorter) and one taking the higher road (longer).  Both parties made it safely to the Grouse Gap Shelter for lunch, (which was a Hank lunch – think short), although not at the same time.  The two groups passed on the PCT, handed off car keys (to keep everyone warm) and eventually ended back together again at the gate near the ski area.  The later group experienced sunshine views of the snow covered trees and valleys on the last mile out.  The weatherman was only 3 hours late, but the sun did come out.

Refreshments were taken at Callahan’s and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.
