Beautiful clear day for a snowshoe. Temperature upon arrival was 32 F and it warmed up to a balmy 41 F in the afternoon.
We snowshoed the Fish Lake to Lake of the Woods road over to Pillette Road and from there up the Lollipop loop in a clockwise direction. The trail is not as shown on the trail maps. On the southern part of the loop (the top of the lollipop) the trail does not gracefully curve into Sucker's Alley. Rather, there is a new trail that heads west about 1,000' before the intersection shown on the maps. However, this intersection and subsequent trail are well marked.
Jim broke the pivot pin on one of his snowshoes just prior to lunch but was able to make a field repair with a spare shoelace.
According to a Fish Lake local that we met, the Klamath and Medford Nordic and snowmobile clubs maintain around 290 miles of groomed trails. Unfortunately, Lollipop is not one of them. We broke all of our own trail in 4" to 6" of soft snow once we left the Lake of the Woods road.
