Crater Lake Snowshoe 1-2-13

Drive to the TH was uneventful. We went up through Medford to avoid snow covered DIM and the West Side Highway around Klamath. The ground was snow covered from around Prospect up to the rim but the road had been plowed and sanded.

Gorgeous day. Temperature upon arrival at the TH was 27 F. Warmed up to 44 F under clear blue sunny skys. Some wind at clear spots along the rim but otherwise generally a wind free snowshoe.

We had views from Shasta (104 miles south) up to Bachelor and the Middle Sister (88 miles north).

Original peak elevation of Mt. Mazama is estimated to have been around 12,000'
