Bull Gap Snowshoe 12-16-15

Photos by Claudia and Dan

Surprisingly, we had first tracks today on last weekend's snow dump as we headed in towards Bull Gap from the Mt. Ashland Ski Road. However, this was not the unalloyed delight that one might imagine. The snow was 3+ feet deep and quite heavy, so breaking trail was hard work. Instead of doing the Crest Loop as planned we decided to stay on the road for an out and back. Even so, it took us an hour and twenty minutes to do the first mile. On the return, using our beautifully broken trail, it took us less than an hour to cover the same distance, even though it was all uphill.

The weather was good with high overcast and no wind and the temperature hovered right around freezing. The Ski Road was plowed and sanded and was in good condition despite still being snow covered in most places.

We decided on the Brickroom for lunch.
