Buck Prairie I - Fawn Hollow Loop 1-31-18

Today 10 hikers arrived at the trail head at 9:30 am to mostly sunny skies. Many of us brought snowshoes, but decided to walk in our boots. Much of the snow that was present 3 days earlier had melted.

At one mile, one of the hikers realized that she has lost the traction devices for her boots which were recovered on the way back. As we went downhill, there was a great view of Mt. McLoughlin and Brown Mountain. We came to the junction where Buck Prairie 1 connects with Buck Prairie 2 and walked into the open meadow.

Continuing around the Fawn Hollow loop at 2.4 miles we stopped for a snack break where most left their packs on. Since this was not the lunch stop, the uphill trek that followed did not break the “no uphill after lunch” rule in the by-laws.

We were all back to the cars within 2 hours. A long lunch was taken at Caldera Brewery and Restaruant.
