Takelma Gorge - Upper Rogue River Trail 10-26-15

Photos by Alex and Gladys

On the way to the trailhead we hit dense fog around White City that didn't clear up until we passed Shady Cove. After that it was full sunshine for the rest of the day, but we got to sample it only occasionally, since the trail was in the full shade of tall trees most of the way. In fact, we gave up looking for a sunny lunch spot by the Rogue River and settled for a large downed log above the trail.

There was considerable recent deadfall near the Woodruff Bridge end of the hike, including some very large trees across the trail and one very large one bridging the river.

As we started back along the trail, we noticed that a couple of lunch spots near the river from previous years were now in full sun. We realized that in the past we had done this hike in early November after the fall back to standard time. That one hour difference allowed the sun to illuminate the north bank of the river by lunch time.

Refreshments were consumed at the Granite Taphouse in Ashland.
