Natural Bridge to Woodruff Bridge and Return 6-28-19

Our Friday AHG hiking group of eight took in the beauty of the Upper Rogue River Trail from Natural Bridge to Woodruff and back. We marveled on the variety of terrain, enjoyed the sound and sight of the River, rushing to the sea while resting into calm waters as if taking its breaks.

The old growth forest prompted questions about tree species, and we discovered how knowledgeable Lucy Munson is as she explained the ways to distinguish among the fir, pine, hemlock and others based on the growth patterns of their needles.

We took the little spur down to the overlook to Knob Falls, so beautiful, and proceeded to Woodruff for lunch. There, we were tensely entertained by a few young adults jumping off the cliff into the River.

On our return, trip leader Elisabeth had her first (and last) “faceplant” by tripping on a root. No broken bones, but a couple of cheek wounds, ably cleaned up by nurse Lucy. All is well that ends well. It was a fantastic journey in ideal weather.
