Upper Rogue - Union Gorge Overlook to Woodruff Bridge 5-16-18

Eight of us headed north to hike along the upper Rogue River.  The weather was not cooperating on the ride there, with periods of heavy rain.  However, by the time we arrived at the departure point, the rain was a very light sprinkle, so off we went as planned.  Generally throughout the entire hike, the weather was good, with heavy overcast skies, along with an occasional sprinkling from time to time.  On the other hand, the river was in an uproar and in a hurry to get on down the road.

This hike really had two environmental highlights: First was the river, which was in full spring gear.  The waterfalls were spectacular, and then, it gets very quiet as the river drifted along the flatter sections.  The second was the Dogwood trees, which were in full bloom.  There were more Dogwood trees in bloom than I have seen anywhere on any hike.  Both sides of the river were lined with them.

Most of us took lunch in the Natural Bridge parking area, then we headed to Woodruff Bridge to pick up the shuttle car.  Along this last half, Jim W showed us a new (to some of us) waterfall.  It was amazing to see that much water flowing through and over the rocks, changing direction every 5 feet or so.

Refreshments were taken at Buffalo Wild Wings.  All had a great time and were glad we went, even though the weather report said rain.
