I was impressed that we had 8 hikers turn out to hike in temperatures that ranged from 78o to 95o. We parked the cars at Woodruff bridge and hiked 1.6 miles to the Takelma Gorge. I was surprised this was the first time for multiple hikers to see this big bend in the river that goes through basalt cliffs.
After a few photographs and our group shot, we turned and headed back to the cars. Every so often we would reach down and pick a huckleberry or two and pop it into our mouths. They were not quite at the height of ripeness, but still tasted wonderful.
We got back to Woodruff bridge and went to sit in the shade and enjoy some lunch. We shared a bar of Scharffen Berger sea salt caramel dark chocolate. Last week, I forgot to give Hank, Scott and Liz their chocolate, so I let them have extra today.
We then continued up the river about 1.9 miles until we got to Knob Falls. Only Karen, Sherry and I went all the way down to the rocks next to the falls. The mist was refreshing. We climbed back up the trail and continued back to our cars. It was a little after 2pm and we had hiked 7.05 miles and climbed 344 feet of elevation.
Liz and I stopped at Phil's Frosty and had ice cream!!
