Mill Creek Scenic Area 5-25-26

The Mill Creek Scenic Area, 42 miles up Highway 62 next to the mountain town of Prospect, is a treasure of nature on display. The MC Scenic Area offers hiking trails to three waterfalls and more, all within 5 miles. The Upper Rogue River sends whitewater over boulders, while waterfalls add to the river's force.

There was a large Memorial Day turnout to view the sights, with 21 representing the AHG.

From the TH, it's a short hike down through the forest to viewpoints of First Mill Creek Falls dropping 177' into the Rogue and then Barr Creek Falls with its 242' drop. Many pulled their phones out for photo ops

Then we hiked back up to the main trail and turned right down to view The Avenue of the Giant Boulders with the Rogue running through.

This hike is in two parts in order to see everything, so we went back to the cars and drove across the white bridge to the next paved lot to catch the trail to Pearsony Falls.

Another short hike down through the woods revealed the split falls called Pearsony. The falls are split by an island in Mill Creek and drop just 12 feet, but it is indeed an awe-inspiring view! This serene, shaded spot is ideal for lunch.

After lunch, we continued down the trail to the top of the canyon wall to look down on the Rogue cascading over boulders. Then follow the trail downriver to the top of Mill Creek as it drops down the wall into the river.

The trip to The Mill Creek Scenic Area is a rewarding experience, with three waterfalls and the sight and sound of the Rogue River, all in less than five miles.

Happy Trails, Rich
