Lower Rogue 4-5-17

Photos by Denise, John and Keeley

This was a great spring hike, with lots of wild flowers in bloom, under a partially cloudy day and perfect hiking weather. Hiking the Lower Rogue trail takes some effort because, although you only drop a net of 270 feet over the 4.6 mile hike in to our lunch spot, the ups and downs along the narrow (at times) trail total almost 2,000 feet.

We saw a bald eagle, several ospreys, Mallard ducks, Canada Geese and a wild turkey. The waterfalls were plentiful, while the creek crossings were relatively easy. The river was high, so we had lunch on some logs in the sand vs our normal place on the rocks partially in the river, which were covered with water this time of the year.

This is one of those hikes that has outstanding views of a river, creeks, canyons, flowers and wildlife. It is one of our best hikes during the year.

Given the time of completion, we headed straight home.
