Lower Rogue Trail - Grave Creek to Whiskey Creek 10-5-15

Photos by Nick and Ron and Claudia

Cool temperatures at the start of the hike reached 90 degrees by mid-afternoon when the last hiker straggled out. We started out with a record number of 17 hikers, including a newcomer.

The newcomer, accompanied by two other people, including the leader, hiked very slowly and stopped at the spur trail down to Rainey Falls. By the time the other two got to Whiskey Creek, they found only four people waiting there for lunch. The other ten, apparently leaderless, had carried on to some other destination farther along the river.

As in past years, heat was a problem for several people on the way back. One member of the group of ten had an especially difficult time and was left behind by the others. After shepherding another near casualty to the trailhead, the leader started back to find the missing person. Fortunately, after taking a rest, he had made it to within half a mile from the trailhead when the leader met him. All in all a very disorganized hike but with a happy ending. Alex
