After more than two years of closure due to the Rum Creek fire in August 2022, the Rainie Falls Trail has finally been reopened. So on Monday, 16 AHG hikers explored the trail and the wild and scenic Lower Rogue River.

The trail is on the shady side of the river so for the most part we didn't have to deal with temps in the 80s until we got back to the cars. The trail is also rocky so hiking poles were advised and you still had to watch your step. It has several ups and downs but only 300' of gain on the 5 mile RT.

Burnt trees had been cut and moved off the trail and rock slides had been reinforced with metal pipes and fencing and smoothed out level.

Thanks to BLM for the repair and reopening of the trail.

When we got to our lunch spot, Rainie Falls was roaring with a constant cascade of white water. And, we were fortunate to catch glimpses of Salmon jumping up the Falls!

The Rogue was scenic on a sunny day with several tourist rafts making their way downriver. The wild was provided by the white water rapids and the Salmon struggling against the current to return to their spawning grounds.

It was a beautiful adventurous day, and we're glad that this trail has been reopened.

Happy Trails,
Rich
