Briggs Creek 4-15-15

Photos by Lynn, John and Ron

We started our hike quite uneventful. But since the hike leader had only hiked this hike once before there was a slight amount of tension within the group of seven guys.

As we progressed along the trail we kept anticipating the three fallen log bridges, as had been mentioned in the write up, to no avail. The two crossings of tributaries were relatively uneventful.

However, when we came to the main crossing of Briggs Creek the log which was in pictures of the two previous hikes was not across the stream between us and the trail, quite visible on the other side. When looking down stream about 75’ we could see a sizable logjam. Six of us decided to bush-whack downstream to the logjam for crossing. One intrepid sole attempted a wading across and was forced back due to the rapid and very cold water in Briggs Creek. He aborted his hike at that point and decided to warm back up and then turned back.

The remaining six of us continued on to the trail ending at the stream’s edge just upstream of the old miner’s cabin site for lunch. Two intrepid soles actually ventured the 65’ to the actual site of the cabin for their lunch on folding chairs as the rest of us lunched at the creek side.

Upon returning we made several attempts to contact the missing hiker via Walkie-talkie, to no avail. Once back within Walkie-talkie range we discovered that the said inconvenienced hiker was indeed well and back at the cars waiting for us.
