PCT - Etna Summit to Taylor Lake Overlook 10-17-18

Eleven of us headed south to Etna Pass in Northern California. The weather was great (isn't it always lately?) and hiked up to a view point overlooking Taylor Lake. Our trail was part of the PCT through a very scenic part of the Russian Wilderness.

En route we took a few side trips to enjoy the views of Ruffey Lake, Etna Mountain and Mt. Shasta. We then hiked to an overlook spot for Taylor lake, where we met some fellow hikers (Hans, Diane and Bruce). Then we headed back the way we came for lunch above Smith Lake, both avoiding much uphill after lunch and enjoying the views of the lake and Mt. Shasta.

Some of us hiked down part way to Smith Lake for our lunch spot, while others stayed near the trail. It was definitely a "Maria' lunch, given the views, sunshine and wonderful company. After lunch, we headed back down to the cars and to Yreka for refreshments at Jefferson State Roadhouse.

This was a hike completed 8 years ago, but most of us had never been there. It is definitely a great hike and a keeper for next year.
