PCT to Porcupine Mountain 11-29-17

Photos by Dan and Keeley

The group headed up the trail towards Pilot Rock on our way to Porcupine Mountain.  It was in the high 30’s most of the day and overcast, with some brief (and welcomed) appearances from the Sun.  The trail was frozen and at times slippery, but no one fell during the entire day.

There were great views of Mt. Shasta and Mt. McLoughlin, along with Mt. Ashland and several other peaks in between.  When we would cross over a ridge, the wind would cool us all down quickly, so when lunch arrived, we found a protected place with only a view of Pilot Rock.  The landscape looked like someone had taken a big bag of powdered sugar and spread it all over the trees and ground.  Very spectacular in its own right.

Refreshments were taken at Caldera Brewing and we were home early for the Wednesday hike.  Next year we will give serious consideration to hiking back on the trail vs down the road.
