Old 99 to Pilot Rock Quarry (I-5 Borrow Pit) 11-2-15

Photos and Track by Ron

We started at the PCT trail head from old 99. The temperature was 38 and no rain (at that time). Later it started to rain, then sleet and finally a snow shower or two above 5,000 feet elevation.

Our lunch spot was at the ‘Rock Quarry’ and we finished quickly due to the cold and snow. Our return was partly along the Little Pilot Rock Trail and then we bushwhacked up the hill and around to pick up our original route back. Some blue sky was showing by this time. With a bit of discretion as our guide we took the shortcut down Pilot Rock Rd to 99 and back to our cars, cutting off a portion of the muddy wet and cold section of the PCT. Still, our track indicated we hiked 8 miles and climbed about 1,100 feet.

Some so-so fries and good Porter beer from Callahans were our reward.
