We beat the heat by starting at high elevation and hiking 7 miles down to Highway 99, mostly in the woods but with some huge views out towards Shasta.
The strategy worked and it only got hot the last 1/2 mile. I left the crew in the shade with cold water and retrieved the shuttle car at mile 7.
A nice day which ended with some wine at Kerr Manor.
