Our small group of hearty hikers started on the PCT where it crosses the lower service road a half mile below the ski area parking lot. The added miles allowed us to view the jam-packed natural gardens of wildflowers out to Grouse Gap. Featured beauties included the purple trio of Lupines, Monk's Hood and Tower Delphiniums, many over 6' high; and the white multiple blooms of the tall Corn Lily. Many small creeks were busy irrigating the meadows.
The group welcomed back Mike Sanson from quarantine and the amazing bionic Sunny who took on the 9 mile, 1,200' gain hike just 4 weeks after hip replacement.
We met many local and some through hikers on the trail out to Siskiyou Peak, including former regulars Gary Swanson and Ron and Claudia Little. John Kerr broadcast on our radios that he was waiting for us up on the peak. He had taken the short route from Grouse Gap out to Siskiyou Peak and was reading a book as he awaited our arrival. He had met through hike hiker Chris on the trail and offered her a lift into Ashland when we met her again as we were leaving Callahan's.
When we finally made it up to the top of the Peak the 360 degree views were spectacular of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It was a clear day with temps in the mid 60s and little to no wind. The old USGS medallion on top said we were at 7,147' elevation.
It was a glorious day with an excellent hike enjoyed by all.
