Observation Gap to Wrangle Gap on the PCT 8-24-15

Photos by Alex and Ron, Track by Ron

Blue sky above us, smoke below, perhaps a hint of haze at our level.  Near the end of the hike there was definitely some haze visible between Observation Gap and Mt Ashland.  Claudia got a whiff of smoke at one point, but the rest of us were able to breathe freely thruout the whole hike.

This was a very pretty part of the PCT, sometimes in shaded woods, at other time looking south over buckwheat-covered slopes to the haze in California.  Cow bells provided musical accompaniment.  The only downside to this hike is the dusty drive along FS 20 from the Applegate Valley to the Siskiyou crest below Dutchman's Peak.

Refreshments were taken at Boomtown in Jacksonville.
