Grouse Gap Loop 11-21-18

The weather being a bit feisty, the Wednesday Ashland Hiking Group determined the Grouse Gap Trail, with an extended loop and a bushwhacking scenario, would be a more weather hospitable option.  And off we went in the groups’ premier coach up to the trail head at mile marker 7.

The crew was heavy on experience with Dan and John as guides. The weather was blustery and cold in the meadows but the troop of four pushed on and eventually began a partial loop hike past the Grouse Gap Shelter on FS 40S30.  It was calm and comfortable as we began the loop while the discussion of past excursions and difficult bushwhacking adventures in this part of the country being the main topic of discussion.

Dan, with his trusty GPS reading skills, guided our troop off FS 40S30 down an off trail 0.5 mile seasonal creek drainage to FS 40S15B and eventually the familiar locked gate below.

The group shot was taken at the Grouse Creek Falls and we continued on FS 40S15 which allowed us a comfortable walk and talk back to the PCT and the often humorous notes posted on the trail markers.  Lunch and beverages were taken at Caldera.
