Grouse Gap Drainage 8-6-14

Photos by Bev, Dan and Denise

We mostly dodged the smoke bullet today. We decided to do the loop in a clockwise direction so that we would get most of the uphill out of the way before lunch. As we dropped down on FS 40S15 we could see smoke in the valleys to our left. When we got near our turning point to head up to Grouse Gap we could also smell smoke and see it at our elevation.

We took 40S15B, an old logging road which made for easy walking past a lovely waterfall and piles of bear scat. However, it was heading south when we needed to be heading north. So we eventually left it and did a 2,500' bushwhack up to the forest service road leading to Grouse Gap.

Lunch was in the shelter and on the rocks and downed trees, after which we headed back on the PCT to our cars.

Refreshment was taken at Callahan's.
