Donomore Meadows to Dutchman Peak 8-7-19

Photos by Barry H., Keeley and Linda B.

Five of us headed south towards Applegate to hike up to Dutchman’s Peak and have lunch on the fire watch tower deck and enjoying the 360 degree view of the world spread out in front of us.  It was a clear day and temperatures were great for the first half of the hike, but it did get warm on the way down.  Thanks to shade and a cool breeze, it was OK temperature wise.  We saw lots of PCT hikers, from Germany, France, UK and the USA.  All but one started in Mexico and were looking forward to reaching Callahan’s tomorrow.

We also ran into a crew of contract fire workers checking out some of the area in anticipation of the coming storms on Friday and Saturday.  There were flowers everywhere, which made the hike even better  All the meadows were full of many colors.  Plus at lunch there were many butterflies, including what we thought were several Western Tiger swallowtail butterflies.  All had a good time and appreciated the views, scenery and companionship.
