The drive to the TH was 1:40, including a 2 minute rodeo with a young calf that may have been having his first interaction with a vehicle.
From the TH we dropped down to the border for a photo-op and then retraced our steps to begin hiking NE on the PCT. Nice views to the north and west, including Mule Mountain at 22 miles. As we came around the corner at the base of Observation Peak we had nice views towards Dutchman. The trail then comes up to the ridge revealing expansive views to the south.
At Observation Gap we took the road back SE to the base of Observation Peak and then bushwhacked up to the summit. Great, almost 360o views from Shasta to McLaughlin.
After lunch we worked our way down the ridge back to the trail and then back to the car. Refreshments were taken at the County Club.
