Little Pilot Peak from Soda Mountain Road 6-2-21

Photos by Francie and Keeley

Today, due to the high forecasted temperatures, we hiked up to Little Pilot Peak to see the views, all the flowers and then back to Caldera for lunch.  The forecast turned out to be correct and we had finished hiking before temps reached into the 90’s, something everyone appreciated.

The Peonies were not in bloom yet but definitely getting ready to open soon.  I had never seen the extent of Trilliums on this particular hike before.  Some were new (white flower) and some were old (purple flower).

It was good that we had lots of shade along the way and a slight breeze from time to time.  We passed our first PCT hiker today.  She was hiking from the Oregon boarder to Canada.  Other than that, we did not see anyone on the trail or parking lot area.

Everyone retired to Caldera for lunch where we all set up our own accounts using QR codes, then ordered lunch on our phones.  I guess it is the new trend in restaurants.  It was good to spend time with people I had not seen in a long time and started recharging my “social battery”.
