Little Pilot Peak and Soda Mountain Summits 9-13-19

We had a small but very enthusiastic group of four, including two new Friday hikers: George and Kay Simmons. Initially we set out for Soda Mountain (based on a request from a member unable to join us today), but decided to hike forward to Little Pilot Peak. The views of the mountain ranges were crystal clear and beautiful.

We then hiked back to the junction for ascent to Soda Mountain, bird watching along the way with encouragement from Kay with her powerful binoculars. None of us had been to the top of Soda Mountain and so discovered the slog up the gravel road to be greeted by an even more expansive view of the region, from Mt. McLoughlin to the northeast to Shasta to the south and Klamath Mountain Range to the west. Magnificent, again! A highly recommended duo on a clear day.
