Hobart Bluff 5-8-17

Photos by Denise and John

There is nothing like a sunny day and a short drive to bring out a crowd. The large tribe of hikers gathered in a manner similar to Woodstock, not surprising as most of us are of that vintage.

Rich led the main group up from Green Springs Summit while John proceeded on with some recent recruits and entourage to the Soda Mountain trail head for some early conditioning. We rallied at Hobart Bluff where pictures were taken and lunch devoured, followed by only the best of chocolate. We managed to photograph our twenty strong brigade with a wide angle shot after narrowly managing to put the taller in the back without going right over the cliff.

The entire horde then proceeded back down the PCT to the Green Springs trailhead with thoughts of beer in our heads. John played sweep and would like to clarify that he was carrying a hiking pole, not a cattle prod as had been rumored.

Part of the horde opted for sobriety and were excused. The pleasant surprise of the day was that Caldera now have French fries to go with the excellent slate of beers. The pizza slices remain of the highest quality west of Napoli.

We had two new hikers today and two from last week who returned for more punishment. Welcome to Ashland Hiking.
