Our drive up Highway 66 put us just above the smoke, yay!
We had a large group of 16 at the Greensprings parking lot and since some had to get back early to Ashland the group split with 6 taking the short route to Hobart Bluff off Soda Mountain Road, while the remaining 10 crossed 66 and entered the PCT through a gate for a 7 mile RT.
The grass in the meadows was very dry from the summer heat, but the shaded forest heading up to the Bluff was still green and thick with vegetation.
Along the way, we passed 8 "through hikers" heading north, oh to be young and adventurous!
As we were still slogging up the trail, we heard on our 2-ways that the group of 6 were heading down off the Bluff having done 3.32 miles and 300'.
The group led by Jerry hiked up to the top of Hobart for lunch and completed a 7.3 mile RT with about 1,000's gain.
Having battled the Virus for the week preceding today's hike, I pulled up short of the Bluff for a 6.3-mile RT hike.
Two friends accompanied me back to the TH.
It was a good day!
Happy Trails,
Rich
