On Wednesday we had 10 people come out to do a shuttle hike on the PCT from the Greensprings Summit to Hyatt Lake with a stop at Little Hyatt Lake.  It was already 73 degrees by the time we started hiking just a little before 10 AM.

We started on our way with the trail having some ups and downs.  There were very many wildflowers in bloom.  Liz was excited because she knew the Mountain Lady Slippers were in bloom and they did not disappoint.  Another favorite was the striped coral root.

We stopped for a longer Maria lunch at Little Hyatt Lake.  Some sat in the shade enjoying the view of the lake and the sound of the water going over the dam.  Bob and I sat in the sun on top of the columnar basalt rocks.  It was interesting looking at the hexagonal shapes from the top.  Bob explained to us that this happens when lava cools and contracts.

After lunch we had another 1.5 miles to get to the cars.  It was a little uphill but most of the trail was in the shade.  There were many bleeding heart flowers along this last stretch of trail.

We arrived at our cars a little before 2 PM. We had hiked around 6.5 miles with 1,275 feet of elevation gain.  Most of us then went to Caldera to celebrate Liz's and Bob's birthdays.
