Gumboot Saddle to Devil's Crest 8-1-16

Thirteen hikers got themselves on the road early to do this spectacular hike involving considerable work. Weather conditions were perfect at 6500-7000 feet altitude. We all agreed the views were wonderful as we made our way to Devil's Crest. We spoke with 5 or 6 PCT through hikers who all seemed happy and healthly and ready for the second half of their trek from Mexico to Canada.

We had a few things to deal with as Dr Kerr administered first aid and Saban helped retrieve some hikers who went the wrong way near our objective (fault of the leader-mia culpa). Kudos to Elizabeth and Carol who helped one of our hikers along the way. We scrambled a bit finding the right trail around an obstacle on the way back but bushwhacked our way to a road. My usual 2 gallons of cold water was consumed in about 60 seconds on arrival at the trail head.

Most of us stopped at the Shasta Resort for fries and drinks. With some delays during the day we got back late and tired but well satisfied with our experience.
