Gumboot Saddle to Bob's Knob 10-21-15

Photos by Dan and Ron

The drive to the trailhead was an uneventful 1:45. We had a beautiful sunny day with the temperature climbing from the low 40s into the low 60s.

Our original intention was to head down the PCT to the saddle overlooking Devil's Pocket. However, when we got to the turn to the Seven Lakes Basin we decided to instead head around the basin and up to Boulder Peak for lunch.

Once we left the trail and the old road we ended up bushwhacking around the rim above the basin through Manzanita and huckleberry plants and scrambling up several rocky summits for views down into the basin. Poles were quite useful through this area.

We almost made it to Boulder Peak but decided to stop about 3,000' short at Bob's Knob for lunch after we had a closer view of the slope up Boulder Peak.

On the way back we saved a bit of uphill after lunch by circling around Lake Helen instead of going all the way back down the old road and then up the trail again.

We enjoyed refreshments on the deck at the Mt. Shasta Resort.
