PCT - Castle Crags - North From the Dog Creek TH 1-8-14

Our faith in scouts Richard and Sabin was rewarded with a great hike on the PCT below Castle Crags. Hazy sun and 37oF when we arrived at the TH but it quickly warmed up into the low 50s under full sun.

From the TH you very quickly head up a rocky dry creek bed for 600 feet in the first 1/2 mile to the intersection with the PCT. Poles were useful here as well as along several additional sections of the trail which were quite rocky and narrow.

The dry boot club members were happy with the several side creek crossings since they were all essentially dry. As you get higher the views open up both of the Crags as well as the valley. We had a long Annie lunch at Sabin's Point in the warm sun before turning around and heading back down. We didn't get to the lunch spot until 12:30, so an 8:00 AM start for future hikes is indicated.

We rehydrated at the Goat.
