PCT Over the Brown Mountain Lava Flow 8-22-16

The hike across Brown Mountain on the PCT went very well as the debris encountered by the Wednesday Group 2 months ago were all gone. We met numerous PCT hikers, including one Australian. The weather was perfect, with enough shade to keep us cool.

We found a lunch spot about 4 miles out above a lava field and again in the shade. Afterwards we met a park officer and he told us he and his two man crew had cleaned the trail. A couple of chain saws did a lot of work. They couldn't get it done earlier because of accessibility and seasonal workers still in school.

There were two first time hikers and one visitor with us and all had a good time. Someone took a wrong turn but my lips are sealed. Great joy was expressed when the hikers found out I had 2 gallons of cold well water in the car. It went quickly. Unfortunately I ran out of chocolate and several member were close to tears.

A few of us went to Caldera to finish the day.
