Twelve of us enjoyed the beauty of the woods on the Pederson Trail of the PCT to reach the Brown Mountain Shelter for 'brunch time.’ This is a relatively easy trek, and a bit short for a hike.

The distance is just right for snowshoeing to the Shelter, which we’ve done before and will again. The Shelter area is a treat, and pleasant surprise for those not being there before. The sign posted at the intersection of the PCT and spur to the shelter posts the distances to the Mexican and the Canadian borders, respectively.

Hikers visiting this trail for the first time always find it fun to contemplate the PCT here, as to veterans. After ‘brunch’ and our chocolate and conversations, we decided to add on a little distance, so headed back to the PCT to continue further for about ½ mile round trip (keeping it short so one hiker could make his class in the mid -afternoon).

Our mileage for the day was just short of 5 miles RT, with an elevation gain of 400’. Lots of lively conversations and a block of time in silence to listen to the nature around us.  Always a favorite part of our journeys.
