Wards Fork Gap 8-21-19

Two of us decided to hike, despite the rainy forecast.  It is a long drive up a dirt road, but we found the trailhead and set off for Buckhorn Springs.  The weather turned out to be perfect – cool, no wind nor rain.  We did get a light sprinkle on the way back down, but it did not rain until just before entering Jacksonville on the way home in the car.  There were large meadows of Sulfur Buckwheat sprouting their yellow flowers everywhere on either side of the trail.

We had lunch on top of a hill and had 360 degree views.  The main attraction was Mt. Shasta, but many more peaks could be identified.  The main source of trail entertainment were the PCT hikers.  We saw 16 in total from Germany, Scotland, Boston, Texas, Columbia (the country), Australia, Ontario (Canada), North Carolina, Big Sur and Garden Grove (e.g., California).  Some were heading north and others were heading south.  Most enjoyed to chat for a few minutes, but one just kept walking without saying anything and clearly was having a bad day.

We say lots of birds along the way, although neither of us had our binoculars.  It was a good hike.
