PCT - Wards Fork to Buckhorn Springs Overlook 7-12-17

Pics by Dan and Denise

The drive to the trailhead was uneventful save for a 1/2 mile excursion to a beautiful bio-break location after a missed turn near the trailhead. We always seem to get lost in this area, but hope to do better next time.

Beautiful day with temperatures in the 60s and low 70s. Some spots of snow on the trail, but nothing impassable or dangerous. We met a pair of French PCT hikers who had started at the Mexican border and made it as far as Lone Pine before deciding to skip the high Sierras because of the still extensive snow and roaring rivers.

We had lunch on the knob overlooking the Buckhorn Springs area with great views from McLoughlin to Shasta. After lunch we split into two groups with one group returning on the PCT and the other group heading back on the road.

Refreshment was taken at Boomtown.
